They also write balanced headlines and provide multiple opinions on controversial issues. They also have a Reality Check section that debunks fake news stories. They cover a wide variety of topics including Business, Health, Politics and Entertainment & Arts.
Misinformation spreads with the intent to deceive for financial or political gain. It can also obscure important issues by distracting from them or creating new ones. Some examples of this include covering a riot, but neglecting the causes, or focusing on an issue that has already been widely reported on, but providing little new information or context.
Americans’ trust in news outlets has remained mostly unchanged over the last year. Democrats are more likely than Republicans to say they trust the news in general and most specific outlets included in YouGov’s 2025 survey. However, the gap has narrowed between the percentage of Democrats and Republicans who use and trust each news source. For example, the gap between Democratic and Republican usage of Fox News has remained stable but has narrowed for both the AP and CNN.
